The Gas Guzzler

If I'm correct, you are well wondering the meaning behind the peculiar title of this particular piece. The fact that this fine green specimen had planted itself nearly upside down on my car's rear left tire is only but a small fraction of the story. No, the real reason I titled this piece what I did is due to a quite befuddling experience I had with this neon-hued fellow. What happened that day was a first for me, and I'm quite sure, no, positive, that it hasn't happened to very many people, if anyone, ever, in the history of the world. You see, as I pulled up to the gas station before progressing on my journey south via the Interstate 5 freeway, I had no clue that a large, bright green praying mantis would come slipping out of the gas nozzle as I removed it from the holder, then land on my foot and proceed to plant itself firmly in the position you see it in now. No, I had no clue, none at all; yet that is exactly what happened. And this little (I mean large) green insect will forever go down in infamy as the mantis who's past time was to guzzle gasoline.
